Bio

The candidate, whose University background copes with the field of Biomedical Engineering, has been introduced to the design and prototyping of complex devices during his M.Sc. thesis. The thesis, entitled “Design of an extra-urethral artificial sphincter for the management of urinary incontinence”, was focused on the development of a device to continence, such as Artificial Urinary Sphincter, and was carried out at The BioRobotics Institute (SSSA). This research experience allowed the candidate to acquire knowledge and technical abilities in different fields such as traditional actuation systems, magnetic switchable devices, mechanical components dimensioning and FEM simulations. This experience has fostered the candidate interest towards the design and the development of biomedical implantable devices. In addition, a strong aptitude of the candidate to collaborate with physicians has been highlighted during the Thesis period. The candidate wishes to work in this research field, because it still remains an open field and his knowledge put on service of healthcare could increase the quality of life and the possibility to treat pathologies otherwise considered fatal. During his B.Sc. thesis, the candidate faced a totally different issue: his work, carried out at University of Pisa, aimed at realize a comparative analysis of hepatitis theoretical models. The merging of all these competences will hopefully lead the candidate to reach ambitious scientific goals which would represent milestones for his personal career, for the research group he will be involved in.
