Representatives from DITECFER S.c.a.r.l Italian rail cluster and 26 Turkish State Railways delegates visited the Sant’Anna School TeCIP Institute.

Turkish State Railways are focused on the future of transportation in Turkey in which technology and innovation can provide economic growth and social benefits; it was therefore a good time to visit the TeCIP research centres and laboratories that unify advanced photonics research in the areas of optical communications and perceptual robotics technology.

DITECFER S.c.ar.l., established in July 2004, is a limited liability company, where all members are fully committed to the partnership which includes 32 companies, 3 Universities/Research centres and 3 Associations. DITECFER S.c.ar.l. is devoted to support innovation oriented research and improve corporate innovation and competitiveness also through university-industry R&D interactions.

The visit to the TeCIP Institute lasted two hours; as part of the tour, delegates visited the PERCRO Perceptual Robotics Lab. where researchers working in the field of railway engineering are focusing on key performance aspects such as suspension performance, traction and braking.

Delegates then were presented a number of tools and techniques being developed by the Telecommunications research centre to increase railways safety and reliability (communication networks based on photonics technology, sensors, wireless and optical communications, radar systems) in addition to IoT activities into rail applications ( creating an effective platform for integration of M2M data).

The meeting in Tuscany offered an opportunity to expand Turkish State Railways, DITECFER and TeCIP Institute cooperation and, ultimately, the passengers will benefit from recent innovations for railway infrastructure real-time monitoring.
