INNOVATIVE STARTUPS- A RESOURCE FOR ITALY: RECTOR PROFESSOR PERATA PARTICIPATES IN THE MEETING PROMOTED BY RESEARCH AND ENTREPRENEURSHIP FOUNDATION. PROFESSOR DARIO DIRECTOR OF BIOROBOTICS INSTITUTE HAS BEEN AWARDED ONE OF THE “RESEARCH TRANSFER” PRIZE

“Innovative Startups: a Key Resource to Enhance the Country System” conference was held on May 9th in Naples, promoted by Research & Entrepreneurship Foundation,  Regione Campania, University of Naples Federico II and Sant’Anna School. Sant’Anna Rector Perata delivered the opening speech and Professor Paolo Dario, director of the Biorobotics Institute won one of the “Research Transfer Award”.

Expert discussants, university and Italian most innovative companies managers included: Stefania Giannini, Minister of Education, University and Research; Vincenzo De Luca, President of the Campania Region; Mauro Moretti, CEO and Managing Director of Leonardo - Finmeccanica and President of Research & Entrepreneurship Foundation; Domenico Arcuri, CEO of Invitalia, Roberto Cingolani, Scientific Director of the Italian Institute of Technology, Massimo Inguscio, President of the National Research Council, Gaetano Manfredi, Dean of University Federico II; Innocenzo Cipolletta, President of the Italian Investment Fund.

The meeting attracted leaders in universities, large companies, banks, venture capital funds and institutions, to discuss recent experiences with startups and it provided an opportunity to outline the policies that make new innovative companies an essential cornerstone in the development of innovation to meet public and private demand.

Final session of the conference is dedicated to the "Research Transfer Award" and Research & Entrepreneurship Foundation offered awards to outstanding scholars for their role in the technology transfer to society and the world of work. Award given in the category dedicated to university teachers who have distinguished themselves as international patent holders and as founders of research spin-off companies, went to Paolo Dario, Director of Sant'Anna School Biorobotics Institute.

Thirty candidates have been carefully chosen among sixteen different universities distributed throughout Italy for the "Research Transfer” award. In addition to Paolo Dario, professor Antonello Cutolo at University of Sannio in Benevento, professor Alfredo Nicosia at University Federico II of Naples, professor Alessandro Sannino at University of Salento in Lecce, professor Marco Cantamessa at Polytechnic University of Turin and Riccardo Pietrabissa, professor at Polytechnic University of Milan, were honored for their technology transfer activities.

Today, the knowledge transfer,  the "know how" and technology transfer, from university research to the business world has become a real challenge in the academic world.

The knowledge transfer process, known as  the "third mission", has been officially added to the "core business" of university after teaching and research.
