The Sant’Anna School for Advanced Studies shares the Italian National Rectors’ Association - CRUI (Conferenza dei Rettori delle Università Italiane) and the European University Association unanimous positions on the statement condemning the actions taken by the Turkey’s government following the coup attempt of July 15th.

“These actions – the CRUI association commented – represent a threat to the civil liberties of individuals and community. In particular, such measures impose restrictions on the academic freedom of research, teaching and self-government which have long been recognized and are essential to the existence of a university. Nevertheless, in the immediate term, the measures taken by the Turkish government will cause serious harm to current partnerships which required a long-term commitment and sharing of the same values that today have been denied.

We will give concrete responses to the actions taken against the Turkish academics: on the one hand, we strongly condemn the human rights violations; on the other, we show solidarity and support for Turkish universities, professors, researchers and students”.
