Italy and UK will discuss the issues of migration and the protection of fundamental rights of migrants comparing their legal systems: academics, researchers, lawyers and experts of the two countries gather for the conference on Saturday, May 28th at Sant'Anna School for Advanced Studies, a joint project between British Italian Law Association and Dirpolis Institute of Sant'Anna School, with the sponsorship of the High School for Law and Advocacy - National Bar Council Foundation. In particular, thanks to the comparison between academics and experienced lawyers, the workshop aims to provide a theoretical and attentive interpretation for the practice and the judicial protection of human rights.

After the welcome speech by Emanuele Rossi, professor of constitutional law and pro-rector, speakers will discuss issues such as the legal status of foreigners under the Italian law, social citizenship paths, fundamental rights and migration criminal law, arbitrary and administrative detention of irregular migrants, the protection of linguistic minorities as a tool to foster integration in the UK. In consideration of the social significance of the migration phenomenon and the urgent need to find effective responses, the issue of international migration and human rights is now at the center of the European Union policy agenda. The conference on May 28th at Sant'Anna School brings a contribution to fuel the debate among leading academics. Furthermore, the structure of the interventions may prove useful in relation to law practice.

3 credits are granted to lawyers attending the conference by the Italian National Bar Council.
