The 2017 SantˈAnna Science Café Science is an educational and entertaining event. It explores a variety of science and technology topics. Attendees can enjoy food and music while hearing from scientists and researchers.

On June 22 at 9.15 pm, at the SantˈAnna School Science Café final event, Laura Montironi, engineering student at SantˈAnna School, will give her talk “Hyperloop: l’Italia in treno a 1000 chilometri all’ora” discussing her work on subsonic high-speed train reaching 1.000 km/h. The Italian approach to the design of what Elon Musk unveiled as the fifth mode of transport, focused on the design of the suspension system of the "pod" and to vibration control in connection with high speed travel. The Sant’Anna School AlesTech spin off company participated in the "SpaceX Hyperloop Pod Competition", a global competition for university students launched by Elon Musk. The SpaceX team of engineers designed an innovative, smart suspension system, now patented, able to find the slightest trace of imperfection of the propelling pods suspensions.

Laura Montironi will also tell the audience about the experience of the AlesTech team in the testing phase of “SpaceX Hyperloop Pod Competition” in the United States.

Who is Laura Montironi? Laura was born in Recanati. She is a fifth year engineering student at Sant’Anna School. She received her 3-year degree in aerospace engineering in 2015. She is currently enrolled in the aerospace engineering five year program and participated in several research projects on fluid dynamics and composite materials. In 2015 as Ales Tech team leader, she took part in the Hyperloop Pod Competition sponsored by the American company SpaceX.

The 2017 Sant’Anna Science Café event was inspired by Debora Angeloni. It is organized with the support of Francesco Ceccarelli, journalist, and Area Affari Generali Office.

The Sant’Anna Science Café is free and open to the public. Lectures will be held in aula 3 and aula magna storica - piazza Martiri della Libertà 33 - Pisa.
