Clara della Valle is currently project manager and principal researcher of the project “Enhancing Women’s Participation in Peace and Security (WEPPS)”, implemented by the DIRPOLIS Institute, in partnership with Agency for Peacebuilding (Bologna), and funded by the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation. She is also academic tutor of the course “International Relations” at the Department of Political and Social Sciences of the University of Bologna (Forlì Campus). Clara della Valle obtained her Ph.D. in “Politics, Human Rights and Sustainability” cum laude at the Sant’Anna School of Advanced Studies in July 2019. Her thesis investigates the EU approach to supporting women’s rights and empowerment in Tunisia, by adopting an interdisciplinary and ‘bottom-up’ perspective. In the frame of her doctoral research, she has conducted a six-months fieldwork in Tunisia, based at the Institut de Recherche sur le Maghreb Contemporain (IRMC) in Tunis. Before enrolling in the Ph.D. Program, Clara della Valle held a second-level Master’s degree in European Political and Administrative Studies from the College of Europe (Bruges campus), a Bachelor’s degree in Political Sciences and a Master’s degree in International Relations (both cum laude) from the LUISS University (Rome). During her Bachelor’s degree, she did an Erasmus exchange at Sciences Po Aix (Aix en Provence). She has worked as an intern for the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the NPO Rondine Cittadella della Pace (Arezzo). She has also worked as a journalist in Rome for two years, becoming giornalista pubblicista in 2013.

Her research interests include: human rights and gender equality; UN, EU and national gender strategies; EU Foreign Policy (in particular, ENP); EU international actorness; Euro-Med relations; North-African countries; civil society; post-colonial feminist studies; Grounded-Theory methodology.
