The workshop Next-Generation Disease Modeling: Translational Opportunities from Molecular, Cellular and In Vivo Systems in Cancer Research will bring together researchers working at the forefront of innovative approaches to disease modeling and translational oncology.
Organized by Prof. Debora Angeloni of the Institute of Biorobotics at Scuola Superiore Sant'Anna, the event will explore emerging technologies and experimental models that are transforming cancer research, from single-cell analysis and induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs) to patient-derived avatars and advanced in vivo systems.
The program will feature contributions from leading experts from Scuola Superiore Sant'Anna and the University of Michigan, offering insights into novel strategies for understanding tumor biology, overcoming therapeutic resistance, investigating mechanisms of tumor recurrence, and developing bioelectronic medicine approaches to modulate inflammation and the tumor microenvironment.
The workshop will open with an introduction to next-generation biotechnologies for disease modeling by Ivana Barravecchia (Scuola Superiore Sant'Anna), followed by presentations from Stefanie Galban and Mostafa Ibrahim (University of Michigan) on innovative models for studying lung and pediatric brain cancers. The event will conclude with a talk by Debora Angeloni on bioelectronic medicine approaches for modulating inflammation and the microenvironment of solid tumors.
The workshop provides an opportunity for researchers, students, and professionals interested in cancer biology, translational medicine, and advanced disease modeling to exchange knowledge and foster interdisciplinary collaboration.
