Short Bio
Luay Alawneh is a Full Professor of Software Engineering at Jordan University of Science and Technology (JUST). He received his master’s and Ph.D. degrees from Concordia University, Canada. His research interests include high-performance computing, parallel systems, and the application of deep learning in human activity recognition, language models, and time-series analysis. Before joining JUST, he worked as a senior software engineer at Nuance Communications (now part of Microsoft) and as an applications developer at Rockwell Automation.
Short Abstract
The widespread use of smartphones and wearable devices has enabled the collection of rich human activity data through embedded sensors, such as accelerometers and gyroscopes. This seminar explores how artificial intelligence techniques can leverage mobile sensor data to develop personalized human activity recognition and fall detection systems that adapt to individual movement patterns. It further discusses the use of behavioral characteristics extracted from human activities for user identification and continuous authentication, enabling accountability in shared-device environments and passive security through one-class classification and anomaly detection approaches. The seminar highlights the potential of mobile sensing technologies to support personalized, secure, and intelligent human-centered applications.
Prof. Luay Alawneh, will give a seminar while visiting our Institute from June 29th to July 4th within the Erasmus+ exchange program with the Jordan University of Science and Technology.
