A group of twenty Scuola Superiore Sant'Anna honor students, from the Political Science and Law Departments, participated in an institutional visit to Brindisi at the United Nations Global Service Centre at the end of the course ‘The United Nations Peacekeeping Missions’ by Prof. Andrea de Guttry.
On UN Day 2024, the students together with the two accompanying lecturers, Prof. Andrea de Guttry and Prof. Lorenzo Gasbarri, took part in the celebrations for UN Day 2024, in the presence of UNGSC Director Giovanna Ceglie. During the conference, which was also attended from Beirut by Kandice Ardiel, Deputy Spokeperson of UNFIL, Prof. de Guttry and Prof. Gasbarri highlighted the important role that the United Nations has played from its foundation to the present day, while stressing the need for reform in light of new and emerging global challenges. In addition, Cristiano Diprima spoke on behalf of all the Allievi to talk about the issues on the UN agenda that the younger generations are closest to and their expectations of the UN.

During the visit, the group had the opportunity to see the operational spaces of the base up close and to learn about the activities carried out by UN officials in the different areas. In particular, in the first part of the day, Pupils delved into the operational action of the Supply Chain Service, directly visiting the premises and workshops where these take place. In the second part of the visit, on the other hand, the group explored the activities of the Service for Geospatial, Information, and Telecommunications Technologies, including those related to Additive Printing.
Finally, at the end of the day, the Pupils met with staff representatives from the Standing Police Capacity and the Justice and Corrections Standing Capacity (JCSC) - Office of Rule of Law and Security Institutions, and discussed with them the crucial role of the police force and the JCSC in UN Peacekeeping operations and Special Political Missions.

The importance of this visit was witnessed in the words of Giovanna Ceglie, Director of the UNGSC, who thanked the Scuola Superiore Sant'Anna and Professors de Guttry and Gasbarri for taking part in the UN Day 2024 celebrations with a large group of Students and Allievi and recalled the fundamental role of the younger generation for the future of the United Nations.
