The Sant'Anna School awards diplomas to 209 honor students who have completed their studies. Two former honor students return to share their experiences
“It is a day that focuses on our community and coincides with a special anniversary: the Sant'Anna School is celebrating its 39th birthday, an anniversary that reaffirms our commitment to education, research, and social impact,” says Rector Nicola Vitiello
Over the years, the graduation ceremony has proven to be more than just a symbolic moment of transition. It is an opportunity to share an achievement and draw a line, look ahead and start new journeys, with the skills and responsibilities acquired during the educational path.
The Sant'Anna School of Advanced Studies in Pisa awarded first-level, second-level, licentiate, and doctoral degrees to students who completed their respective courses of study (209 in total: 88 first-level, second-level, and licentiate students; 121 doctoral students). The ceremony took place on Saturday, February 14, starting at 10 a.m. in the Aula Magna of the main campus. In attendance were Rector Nicola Vitiello, Pro-Rector Gaetana Morgante, Deans of the academic classes Christian Cipriani and Alberto Di Minin, and Representative of the PhD coordinators Alessio Moneta.
The ceremony featured testimonials from two former students of the Sant'Anna School of Advanced Studies, who were invited to share the value of the Sant'Anna experience in professional practice and research: Chiara Franco, First Secretary at the Permanent Representation of Italy to UNESCO, and Chiara Cremolini, Full Professor of Oncology at the University of Pisa. A return that becomes a passing of the baton: the experience of those already in the field meets the choices of those entering the professional and research world today.
Towards the 40th anniversary of the Sant'Anna School
This year, the graduation ceremony coincided with a significant anniversary, the 39th birthday of the School. The event is the first in a series of events that will accompany Sant'Anna School towards its 40th anniversary celebrations, with initiatives designed to highlight the stories, achievements, and projects that have marked these years and continue to guide the work of the academic community.
The Samuel Picchi Award and the Robotics & AI Department of Excellence Award
During the ceremony, two awards were also presented: the Samuel Picchi Award, named after the university employee who passed away prematurely; in his memory, it was decided to donate a contribution to the School's students for the purchase of AI licenses to support individual training; and the Robotics & AI Department of Excellence Award, aimed at researchers affiliated with the Department who have presented work on the topics of Artificial Intelligence and Materials Science and Technology.
