Cooperation between Italy and African countries is further strengthened by the new advanced training course in Dar es Salaam, aimed at the Tanzanian judiciary (10-13 February 2025).
The training course, promoted by the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation in collaboration with the Institute of Peace and Conflict Studies (IPCS-Tanzania), aims to strengthen the knowledge and skills of magistrates in relation to international judicial cooperation tools, with particular reference to human trafficking, also through the analysis of practical cases.

The course in Tanzania is the second in a long series of advanced training courses that the Sant'Anna School is involved in as part of the Project ‘Rule of Law and Cooperation in Africa (2024-2025)’. The new edition of the Project is a continuation of the training and capacity-building activities for the judiciary in African countries already undertaken during the projects financed by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation (MAECI) in previous years (2018-2024) and includes various in-depth studies on specific topics with the participation of Italian and African experts and university professors. The support provided by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Italian Embassies on site has always been crucial to the success of these activities.

The Italian Ambassador to Tanzania, Giuseppe Coppola, took part in the closing ceremony that took place on 13 February 2025, where he had the opportunity to meet the participants and took the floor to highlight how the Italian approach to the fight against organised crime represents a model of excellence that is appreciated and applied in international contexts, paying tribute to the memory of judges Giovanni Falcone and Paolo Borsellino, symbols of the fight for justice and legality. The Ambassador emphasised the importance of strengthening international collaboration in this crucial area, recalling that: ‘The fight against mafias and transnational criminal organisations is a shared responsibility, which requires constant and coordinated commitment at a global level".

"The Sant'Anna School is proud to contribute to this significant higher education project,’ said Lorenzo Gasbarri, international law researcher at the Dirpolis Institute and project manager, ’which aims to strengthen cooperation with the judiciary in African countries and promote the rule of law. We believe that investing in training and strengthening institutions is a fundamental step towards consolidating the rule of law in key countries on the African continent".
