What universities offer free tuition at the highest standards? Two Italy’s highest-ranked and highly competitive institutions, the Scuola Normale Superiore and  the Scuola Superiore Sant’Anna, charge no tuition fees and cover living costs for all undergraduate students.

According to the analysis by FairFX Currency Exchange Company published in British Times Higher Education magazine, universities Normale and Sant’Anna have been named the cheapest institutions in Europe. Currently, EU and non-EU top talented students pay no fees for studying in Pisa.

German universities Technische Universität Dresden (TUD)Free University of BerlinUniversity of GöttingenUniversity of WürzburgRWTH Aachen UniversityHeidelberg UniversityUniversity of Mannheim and University of Freiburg are far cheaper than other European institutions. UK universities are the most expensive: European students studying in Britain currently pay the same as British students (tuition fees of £9,000 plus an average annual living cost of £9,200).

FairFX has calculated tuition fees and living expenses for studying in Europe after the Brexit negotiations. The analysis included in the Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2018 highlighted how Brexit could affect the cost of university education at European universities for UK students. This analysis has found Italian and German universities the most affordable in Europe and UK to be one of the most expensive nations in the world to be a student in.
