Piervito Lopriore, a neurologist and second-year PhD candidate in Translational Medicine at the Sant’Anna School of Advanced Studies in Pisa, has been elected Junior Board Member of the European Society for Mitochondrial Research and Medicine (E-MIT), a European scientific society dedicated to advancing research in mitochondrial biology and medicine.

This appointment represents an important recognition of his clinical and scientific career in the field of rare neurological diseases, with a particular focus on mitochondrial disorders.

The position was conferred during the European congress on mitochondrial medicine (EUROMIT), which this year was held in Angers, France.

During the congress, Piervito Lopriore presented the preliminary results of his PhD research project, aimed at investigating the neuroimmunological mechanisms underlying mitochondrial diseases caused by mutations in the POLGgene.

Lopriore’s research is carried out in the laboratory of Professor Debora Angeloni at the Sant’Anna School of Advanced Studies, in collaboration with Professor Michelangelo Mancuso of the University of Pisa and the Pisa University Hospital.
