Knowledge Transfer
The research activities of the Sant'Anna School of Advanced Studies, fostered by its interdisciplinary approach and its close interaction with the cultural, social, scientific, and economic spheres, have generated a significant impact over the years on industrial development and technological innovation.
These synergies have led to the establishment of strong and long-standing collaborations with companies and public institutions. The School's laboratories and research centers have given rise to numerous spin-off companies and to an extensive patent portfolio comprising both national and international patents, some of which are jointly owned with other public and private institutions or licensed to companies.
The Sant'Anna School of Advanced Studies ranks among Italy's leading universities in terms of the ratio of patents to faculty members and researchers in the fields of Science and Technology. This is complemented by a substantial number of spin-off companies operating in high-tech sectors, including robotics, photonics, microengineering, biomedical technologies, environmental sustainability, and financial, technological, and legal consulting.
