Call for application to the PhD in Biorobotics 2026-27

The publication of the ranking list has been postponed: by 24th July, 2026.


Available positions

10 positions with scholarship funded as described below:

  • No. 9 positions funded by Scuola Superiore Sant’Anna of which 1 position on the Research Line Supernumerary Robotics;  
  • No. 1 positions funded by Istituto Italiano di Tecnologia in the framework of the research line BioInspired Soft Robotics. 

Further positions may be activated, funded by active projects at Sant’Anna School of Advanced Studies and/or by additional financial resources, specific agreements, or apprenticeship contracts. What does the PhD in Biorobotics offer?

  • An interdisciplinary and international research environment
  • Three-year doctoral scholarship of € 19.740 gross per year + a housing allowance of € 2.200 gross per year. The total amount corresponds to approximately € 1.600 net/month.
  • 26 free meals per month at the School’s canteen
  • 50% scholarship increase for research periods abroad
  • Personal budget for research-related expenses (10% of the scholarship)

What documents do you need to participate?

MANDATORY
  • Valid identity document
  • Self-certification of the academic requirements for admission (if the degree was awarded or is to be awarded in Italy)
  • University degree completion certificate (if the MSc degree was awarded or is to be awarded abroad)
  • Transcript of records for the first and second-level degree
  • Weighted average of exam marks obtained in the first and second-level degree courses (or in the single-cycle degree course)
  • 3-page summary of the master thesis dissertation (even if the degree has not yet been obtained)
  • Curriculum Vitae et Studiorum
  • Motivation letter
  • Research project
  • Copy of any other qualification deemed appropriate (e.g., published or submitted articles – with documents attesting to their submission; course participation; internships; work or research activities)
  • Contact details of reference persons: name, surname, and institutional e-mail address of two university professors who have followed the candidate's training process during their university studies. Professors will receive a link to directly upload their reference letter within 5 days after the deadline of this call.
  • Selection of a maximum of 3 research lines of interest chosen from the list published on the page research-lines

Please note: All mandatory documents must be submitted; failure to comply will result in exclusion from the call.
