Call for application PhD in Law 2026-27

Available positions

No. 6 positions with scholarship funded as follows:

  • No. 5 positions funded by Scuola Superiore Sant’Anna, of which 1 reserved for candidates with a degree obtained from a non-Italian University;
  • No. 1 position funded by the European partnership FutureFoods – European Partnership for a Sustainable Future of Food Systems, in relation to the Action "Transforming European Food Systems: Sustainability, Equity, Governance and Resilience as core elements" reserved for candidates who have submitted a research project related to the topic of food losses, analyzing the relevant legal and regulatory frameworks, with specific reference to the Common Agricultural Policy in force and to proposals relating to the post-2027 period. The research will combine legal analysis at the Union level with a comparative assessment of the CAP Strategic Plans adopted by some Member States.

Further positions may be offered before the start of the programme, depending on external funding.

What does the PhD in Law offer?

  • An interdisciplinary and international research environment
  • Three-year doctoral scholarship of € 19.740 gross per year + a housing allowance of € 2.200 gross per year. The total amount corresponds to approximately €1.600 net/month.
  • 26 free meals per month at the School’s canteen
  • 50% scholarship increase for research periods abroad
  • Individual budget for research-related expenses (10% of the scholarship)

What documents do you need to participate?

MANDATORY
  • Valid identity document
  • Self-certification of the qualification obtained or to be obtained in Italy, including the list of examinations taken
  • Certificate issued by the institution awarding the qualification obtained or to be obtained abroad, including the list of examinations taken
  • Curriculum Vitae et Studiorum
  • Motivation letter
  • Research project

Please note: All mandatory documents must be submitted; failure to comply will result in exclusion from the call.

 

OPTIONAL
  • Copy of the MSc degree thesis or the thesis abstract. Candidates who have not obtained their qualification yet should attach a copy of the final draft of the thesis or its abstract.
  • A maximum of 2 reference letters from scholars or professors who present the candidate on the basis of direct knowledge; Candidates can enter the name, surname, and institutional email address of the referees in the registration form. Professors will receive a link where they can directly upload, within three days from the deadline of this call, the reference letter. Only in case of malfunction, letters may be sent directly by professors to the address info-phddirpolis@sssup.it.
  • Copy of any other title or publication that the candidate deems relevant to the course.
