Bio

Alessandro Piccolo is a PhD student at the BioRobotics Institute of Scuola Superiore Sant'Anna in the Surgical Robotics and Allied Technologies Area. He obtained his Bachelor's degree in Biomedical Engineering in 2021 at the University of Padua. In 2023, he earned a Master's degree with honors in Bioengineering from the University of Padua with a thesis titled "Implementation of semiautomatic algorithms for the evaluation of cardiac function in presence of posterior systolic curling."

During his Master's program, he developed a strong interest in cardiovascular applications, particularly in the analysis of medical images. In 2024, he carried out research activities at the University of Pisa and the University of Padua, working on the development of a semiautomatic calculation model for the detection and estimation of mitral curling.

His main research interests concern ultrasound image analysis and the development of algorithms for biomedical image processing, with a primary focus on cardiovascular applications and disease detection, as well as on therapeutic technologies based on High-Intensity Focused Ultrasound (HIFU).
