ITPCM

The International Training Programme for Conflict Management (ITPCM) is a post-graduate programme of the Scuola Superiore Sant’Anna, a public university which promotes education and research in the field of Social and Experimental Sciences. The ITPCM was established in 1995 with the aim to meet the training needs of personnel involved in international field operations.

Since then, our programmes and activities have expanded in number, scope and geographical target. We conduct research activities and offer institutional as well as on-demand training programmes, along with project assistance and other consultancy services, in following areas of interest: peacekeeping, humanitarian assistance, election monitoring, human rights promotion and protection, post-conflict rehabilitation.

Moreover, to further enhance the quality and relevance of the ITPCM activities, partnerships have been established with numerous organisations and institutions, ranging from military and police forces to international organisations and academic institutions across the globe. Advanced research activities have been promoted and a strong expertise has been developed in a number of fields, including for example the international and national normative frameworks pertaining to disaster preparedness, prevention, response and to post-disaster recovery, counter-terrorism law, protection of vulnerable groups, the duty of care of international organizations and the international legal obligations related to prevention, preparedness, response and recovery from CBRN events. Most of the research activities conducted have resulted in the publication of edited volumes with prestigious international publishers and articles published in national and international academic journals. The academic outputs of the research activities are visible on the individual webpages of the researchers involved. The ITPCM is also part of a series of international networks with which it shares projects, programs and initiatives to strengthen the impact of international operations and missions.

ITPCM focuses as well on development and cooperation, having acquired significant experience in designing, implementing and evaluating multi-actors projects carried out within the framework of North-South and South-South territorial partnerships.

Andrea de Guttry, Full Professor of Public International Law at the Scuola Superiore Sant’Anna, is the ITPCM Director. He leads a team of dedicated experts with considerable international experience and diversified backgrounds.
