THE 2017 EUROPEAN RESEARCHERS’ NIGHT IS “BRIGHT” IN TUSCANY. ON FRIDAY 29 SEPTEMBER SANT’ANNA SCHOOL CELEBRATES SCIENCE IN THE STREETS OF PISA AND PONTEDERA

The BRIGHT night on Friday 29 September is Tuscany’s contribution to a Europe-wide celebration of academic research. This year, the BRIGHT initiative offers a wide range of activities in Pisa and Pontedera, as we travel along imaginary underground route connecting the university town of Pisa with its surroundings.

Robotics, plant biology, nutrition, research products, political news and “Brexit” will all be explored during the 2017 September event. Talking with Sant’Anna School research staff the audience will participate in an interactive debate and will discover the BRIGHT “Multimedia Newsstand”, an on-line initiative available to all users. The Multimedia Newsstand is an interactive service which connects any user to the researchers and the labs.

The following initiatives will be held in Pisa:

RESEARCH MEETING “APPETIZER”

  • Thank you, Mrs May” A talk about “Brexit” (6.30 pm – at Carraia del Nicchio, via Oberdan 15), with Giuseppe Martinico, professor of public law of Sant’Anna School Dirpolis Institute (Law, Politics, Development).

RESEARCH AT A KIOSK SITE

  • BRIGHT Sant’Anna Newsstand” (6.00 pm – at logge di Banchi) with Marco Martinelli, PhD student at Agrobiosciences Research centre at Sant’Anna School Life Sciences Institute. Martinelli presents the Researchers’ Night event after his participation in the Memex TV show “La Scienza in gioco” - Rai Scuola.
  • Multi-degree of Freedom Robots” (6.00 pm – at piazza Martiri della Libertà with researchers of Sant’Anna School Biorobotics Institute). This is an opportunity for interacting with robots, robots display and demo, and personally meeting the research staff.
  • “Research products” (6.00 pm – at largo Ciro Menotti), the event offers a presentation of products developed by Sant’Anna’s Spin-off companies: SunBlack, the black tomato; a new type of heart-healthy pasta, upper and lower limb exoskeleton robots for rehabilitation treatment.

The researchers of Normale, Sant’Anna, IMT Alti Studi Lucca and IUSS Pavia joint technology transfer office JoTTO will give a talk on advanced research concepts and project ideas. Professor Andrea Piccaluga of the Institute of Management will lecture on knowledge transfer partnership between research institutions and industry.

OPEN DAYS AT THE LAB., at Sant’Anna School, piazza Martiri della Libertà 33

  • The future of farming: balancing technology and nature", a lecture by research staff of Sant’Anna School PlantLab.
  • "Explore the feet beneath your feet. Ground water and sustainability”, a lecture by research staff of Sant’Anna School Life Sciences Institute.
  • “Labelling and Nutrition: talks and games to make healthier food choices, a lecture by research staff of Sant’Anna School Dirpolis Institute and Institute of Management.
  • Fancy a life in an eco-friendly town? Like and Share! Web tools and interactive participationon on sustainability”, a lecture by Chiara Certomà, researcher of Sant’Anna School Dirpolis Institute. Lecture will be held at 9.00 pm - aula 3.

The following initiatives will be held in Pontedera:

OPEN DAYS AT THE LAB.

  • The Biorobotics Institute (via Rinaldo Piaggio, 34, from 6.00 pm to midnight) will be opening its doors to the public to give the chance to see the “Nexus – Man-Machine Interaction” exhibition and to explore the laboratory and see first-hand some of the research activities they carry out. Refreshments will be available to the attendees.
  • The Biorobotics Institute will be opening its doors to the public for the event “Pontedera Città dei Motori e dell’Innovazione” and a concert, “Neural tracks” by Alessio Ghionzoli, researcher of Sant’Anna Biorobotics Institute, at Villa Crastan, via XXI Aprile 23, from 6.00 pm to midnight.
