Francesco Iberite, Francesco Iberite, a PhD student in Biorobotics, has been selected by Fortune Italia magazine as one of 40 young people under 40 committed to changing their future and that of Italy. Iberite was awarded in the Science category for his studies on systems that allow people with amputations to return to natural sensations through prostheses.
The Fortune Italia award is intended to reward the courage, creativity and ideas of young people committed to creating value in key sectors such as science, sport, entrepreneurship and communication.

Towards realistic bionic hand

Born in Latina in 1992, Francesco Iberite graduated in Computer Engineering in 2015 at the Sapienza University of Rome and then moved to Pisa, where he attended a Master's degree course in 'Bionics Engineering' (a joint course between Scuola Sant'Anna, University of Pisa and IMT of Lucca). He is currently a PhD student at the Biorobotics Institute of Sant'Anna.
In 2023, Iberite published in Science, as first author, the study that successfully tested a new way for prosthetic hands to communicate with phantom limbs, a typical illusion found in many amputees. The new technique allows the sensation of heat and cold to be transmitted by touch, without using electrodes or surgery.
