Memory is the talisman for understanding the present and preparing for the future: it is memory that is the focus of the event, sponsored by the Universities of Pisa, with images and readings by students and faculty of the Sant'Anna School, the Scuola Normale Superiore, and the University of Pisa that takes place on Friday, January the 27th starting at 2:30 p.m. in the Aula Magna of the Sant'Anna School, coordinated by Michele Emdin and Barbara Henry, professors of the Sant'Anna School.

At the opening are scheduled messages from Sabina Nuti, rector of the Sant'Anna School, Luigi Ambrosio, director of the Scuola Normale Superiore and Riccardo Zucchi, rector of the University of Pisa. This will be followed by readings and testimonies by historians (Michele Battini, Carlotta Ferrara Degli Uberti, Francesco Morosi), political philosopher (Barbara Henry), political scientists (Francesco Strazzari), artists (Annick Emdin, Ursula Ferrara), people studying and working in Pisa universities (Camilla Corino, Piccarda Baccianti, Giuliana Bigongiali, Francesco Ceccarelli, Antonio Di Donato, Vinicio Di Iorio, Chiara Evangelista, Filippo Galli, Elisa Guidi, Alex Isacov, Marco Martinelli, Giulio Santini, Silvia Sperianin, Sofia Morabito) and who will remember what was (witnessing the holocaust of homosexuals, Jews, those who are different) and tell what is happening. They will narrate today's horror that grips the people of Iran and, again, they will reflect on how research is done and how memory is interpreted, on the significance of building a permanent laboratory of memory. Notable among them all will be the testimony of Eugenio Occorsio, a journalist for Repubblica, son of the magistrate killed by the neo-fascists of Ordine Nuovo, the formation founded by Pino Rauti that was the origin of that constellation of groups that, by glorifying Mussolini, the Social Republic, and the darkest times of our Country, was responsible for massacres and assassinations.

In the Aula Magna Storica of the Sant'Anna School, an installation artwork by artist Gianni Lucchesi ("L' Appello") is planned, unceasing, like that of the students expelled because they were of the 'Jewish race' and disappeared in the whirlpool of the Shoah expelled by the one - d'Achiardi - who from Friday, January the 27th, will no longer have for the mobilization of the three universities of Pisa and the city population, a street entitled to his name.

"The sleep of reason breeds monsters: the 1900s - emphasize the event's promoters - produced the aberrant idea of the final solution, the extermination in the Jewish people with its meticulous implementation by willing executioners in every corner of Europe, and our time still sees in the war of conquest in Ukraine, in hatred and violence toward women, in the theocracies of Iran and Afghanistan and the persistence of societies dominated by dictatorships, with the disappearance of individual freedoms, in the resurgence of nationalism and neo-fascism, of hate toward those different by ethnicity, gender and sexual orientation and still after a century by race. Light flashes through the darkness: a street named to an Unjust becomes a street of the Righteous among nations, thousands of women show their faces in Persia, at the cost of prison and their lives, men and women have been resisting the senseless war in Ukraine for a year, and we still manage to hold high the torch of memory and not to forget what happened, because, in Primo Levi's word it can happen again, because it is happening again".
