It’s been 10 years since Professor Claudio Vitagliano passed away, former Dean and Deputy Director of the Scuola Superiore Sant'Anna, Vice President and Director of the National Academy of Olive Tree and Olive Oil of Spoleto. On 23rd May 2016 the two institutions organize a workshop on olive tree biology and cultivation, the tree symbol of the whole Mediterranean area from ancient times. On May 23rd we expect Pierdomenico Perata, rector of the Scuola Superiore Sant'Anna to participate in the opening together with numerous researchers who study and analyze this plant variety, demonstrating how the cultural and scientific legacy of Claudio Vitagliano is still alive.

The workshop shows its international relevance confirming keynote talks by the invited speakers from Universidad de Córdoba and Instituto de Recursos Naturales y Agrobiology of Seville.

At the end of the workshop, prize named after Claudio Vitagliano will be awarded to young scientists and scholars who have published outstanding articles in journal of high national or international standing on the biology of the olive and olive growing. Deadline to apply for the “Claudio Vitagliano” award is Saturday, April 30, according to the criteria contained in the Call available here.

May 23rd Workshop agenda is available in attachment.
