Significant recognition for a Phd Student in Criminal Law at the Scuola Superiore Sant'Anna: Roberta De Paolis, former Scuola's Honors Law Student, was among the winners for the best master's thesis in the competition "Knowledge for the Legality", established by the Giovanni Falcone Foundation. She will be awarded Friday, November 22 in Palermo. The ceremony will be attended by the President of the Giovanni Falcone Foundation, Maria Falcone, the Chief of Police, Lamberto Giannini, the Commander General of the Carabinieri, Teo Luzi, and the President of the Region of Sicily, Sebastiano Musumeci. The participation of the Minister of University and Research, Maria Cristina Messa, has been announced.

The prize intends to valorize the master's thesis written by students committed in the fight against mafia-type crime and the criminality's social and economic impact on the territories. Roberta de Paolis, who ranked second, was chosen by the Commission - chaired by Maria Falcone - for her thesis entitled “The Italian confiscation of prevention and the American civil asset forfeiture, between garantism and efficiency. Prospects for international cooperation”.

Quoting the words of the author herself, the thesis “is motivated by the sincere conviction that a broader study of preventive tools against mafia criminality (...) offers a valuable key to understanding the country itself: who we have been, who we have become, what we believe in, where we want to go, what shoes we walk-in”. Roberta de Paolis' thesis will be published with an ISBN code and Open Access digital mode (Free O.A.), within the series “I Quaderni della Fondazione Falcone”.
