tuscany START CUP 2018: SANT’ANNA school research teams win first-place and third-place awards for innovative ideas. projects will compete at the national award for innovation in november

Sant’Anna School research teams Relief and HUBI Mosquito have won first-place and third-place awards from Tuscany Start Cup 2018 initiative in Florence. The Relief project researchers have developed a model for earlier postoperative urinary continence recovery. University of Pisa research team BeWize has won the second-place award for a new device to estimate cardio metabolic risks. The Sant’Anna School HUBI Mosquito project will focus on integrated pest management for biological and mechanical controls of mosquitos.

The winning teams received funding to develop their projects from inception to completion. Teams also benefit from training and guidance from renowned experts participating in the National Award for Innovation competition on November 29-30, in Verona. The fourth-place award went to Barriera Antiterrorismo Mobile project led by researchers of the University of Florence who will also participate in the National Award for Innovation event.

Selected finalists of the Tuscany Start Cup 2018 included Balance (University of Florence), ErmesLab (University of Florence) NetralMec (University of Pisa), VINE40CAST (University of Pisa), Wanderoo (University of Florence), and Well FARE (University of Pisa).

Andrea Arnone, vice rector for technology transfer at the University of Florence and Monica Barni, vice president of Tuscany Region, welcomed researchers from Pisa, Siena and Florence universities. Luigi Dei, rector of the University of Florence, Lorenzo Zanni (University of Siena), Marco Raugi (University of Pisa, vice rector for technology transfer), Paolo Ferragina (University of Pisa), Chiara Cappelli (Scuola Normale Superiore), Federico Davini (A11-Venture) and Nicola Vitiello (Sant’Anna School spin off company IUVO) participated in the workshop “Imprenditorialità giovanile e sviluppo soft-skills” to summarize policies and activities to encourage young entrepreneurs in developing communication and creative thinking skills.
