The EU programme “JUSTICE” focuses on judicial cooperation in civil and criminal matters, judicial training, with a view to fostering a common legal and judicial culture and the effective access to justice in Europe. Researchers of Sant’Anna School Dirpolis Institute (for Law, Politics and Development studies) participate in the project kick off meeting on October 8-9, 2018 in Bruxelles.

This 2-year project aims to adopt Directive 2017/541 on combating terrorism. Directive 2017/541 updates the EU position on terrorist offences and calls on Member States to establish criminal offences aimed at targeting Foreign Terrorist Fighters (FTFs) and those who assist them. The main focus of the Directive is the establishment of minimum rules on the definition of criminal offences in the area of terrorist offences, offences related to a terrorist group and offences related to terrorist activities. EU institutions shall conduct comprehensive ex-ante assessments and ex-post evaluations of counterterrorism measures, in line with fundamental rights compliance of counter-radicalisation principles.

Within the University Consortium participating in the project, Sant’Anna School Dirpolis Institute faculty members Gaetana Morgante, Alberto di Martino, Giuseppe Martinico, Giacomo Delledonne and Francesca Biondi, combine a range of expertise in the related areas of crime prevention and criminal justice, constitutional law, transnational organized crime, and related international cooperation in criminal matters with operational capacity.
