Artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning have emerged as tools to model intelligent behavior in machines. Machines are just like us; they understand complex environments, learn manipulation skills and work (for us). In the digital era, what role will they play? What are the ethical issues and the implications of Artificial Intelligence?

Michele Di Francesco, Rector of the Scuola Universitaria Superiore IUSS- Pavia, and Barbara Henry, Sant’Anna School Professor of Political Philosophy at the Dirpolis Institute, will discuss the science of making intelligent machines, abstract reasoning and human-like behavior. The workshop “Frontiere dell’Intelligenza Artificiale: l’umanità nell’era digitale – Frontiers in AI and Humanity in the Digital Era”, is organized by the IBSA Foundation in Milan Science and Technology Museum on Tuesday, May 21, 6.30 pm.. Damiano Realini, a journalist of RSI, will act as the moderator.

AI promises enormous benefits for economic growth, social development, and human well-being. The seminar will review ethical and moral issues with AI-based technology and risks for users, developers, legislators, and other stakeholders. From old Frankenstein anthropomorphic machine in cinema and future AI systems dealing with algorithms detecting human feelings, the lecturers will examine the intentions behind future emotional AI and the appropriate level of intimacy, trust and privacy.
