Biology and Biotechnology of the Solanaceae and Their Pigments
The scientific meeting “Biology and Biotechnology of the Solanaceae and Their Pigments” will take place on June 29, 2026, at the Aula Magna of the Scuola Superiore Sant’Anna in Pisa.
The event will bring together leading international researchers to discuss recent advances in Solanaceae biology, with a particular focus on fruit pigmentation, metabolic regulation, and innovative breeding approaches. The program spans topics from pangenomics and genetic dissection of pigmentation traits to carotenoid function, fruit ripening, and metabolic engineering, highlighting both fundamental research and applied perspectives. Distinguished speakers from major European research institutions will contribute to a full day of scientific exchange, fostering dialogue across disciplines and strengthening collaborations within the plant science community. (The meeting is organized on the occasion of the retirement of Giovanni Giuliano, celebrating his long-standing contributions to plant biotechnology and Solanaceae research.)
