BioBlitz Monte Pisano 2025: citizen science returns to the forefront, registrations open to explore biodiversity with the Scuola Sant'Anna research group.

The event takes place during the international initiative City Nature Challenge, the global challenge to observe and record urban biodiversity, involving citizens of all ages in the collection of data useful for science.

BioBlitz Monte Pisano returns, an initiative that participates in the international City Nature Challenge project, a global citizen science competition that invites citizens from all over the world to document the biodiversity of their cities.

BioBlitz 2025 will take place on Saturday, April 26th and Sunday, April 27th with guided excursions led by experts to discover the natural wonders of Monte Pisano. The aim of the initiative is to raise public awareness about the natural richness of the territory and the importance of biodiversity conservation, while contributing to the collection of scientific data.

The event is open to everyone and is organized by the Scuola Superiore Sant'Anna e dal Museo di Storia Naturale dell’Università di Pisa, in collaboration with Dipartimento di Biologia dell'Università di Pisa, Comune di Buti, Comune di CalciComune di San Giuliano TermeComune di VecchianoComune di Vicopisano and the Consorzio Strade dell’Olio.

For the Scuola Superiore Sant'Anna, the BioBlitz 2025 initiative is carried out in collaboration with the Area Third Mission Area, Public Engagement Unit  together with the Agroecology Research Group of Istitute of Plants Science

Camilla Moonen will be present as an expert for route no. 2 in Calci, entitled "The semi-natural habitats of the olive grove agroecosystem


BioBlitz 2025 Program

Saturday, April 26th

  • 9:30 AM - 3:00 PM | The Agnano Ring – Agnano, San Giuliano Terme
  • 9:30 AM - 1:00 PM | The semi-natural habitats of the olive grove agroecosystem – Calci
  • 3:30 PM - 7:00 PM | The Remembrance Park – Montemagno, Calci

Sunday, April 27th

  • 9:30 AM - 1:00 PM | Discovering the historic Navarre spring – Buti
  • 10:00 AM - 1:00 PM | The importance of riparian environments – Vicopisano
  • 10:00 AM - 5:00 PM | The orchids of the Vecchiano hills – Vecchiano

At the end of each excursion, a snack will be offered.


How to partecipate:

Participation is free but requires mandatory booking on EVENTBRITE. Tickets available from April 14th to April 21st, 2025.

For Scuola Sant'Anna employees, a parallel itinerary is planned in Calci (route no. 2 "The semi-natural habitats of the olive grove agroecosystem"), with booking via Google Form. The first 25 registrations will be accepted.
