Today, Thursday, May 8, the official handover ceremony took place at the Sant'Anna School of Advanced Studies in Pisa between outgoing Rector Sabina Nuti and new Rector Nicola Vitiello, who will take the helm of the university for the 2025-2031 term.
Vitiello is a full professor of Bioengineering and co-scientific director of the Wearable Robotics Lab, where he develops wearable exoskeletons for motor assistance and rehabilitation. He joined the Sant'Anna School as a second-level student (Master's degree) and went on to obtain a PhD in Biorobotics.
These were his first statements as Rector: “On behalf of the entire School community, I would first like to thank Sabina Nuti. In recent years, the Sant'Anna School has consolidated its role of excellence in research and training at an international level. Merit and social mobility will be two central concepts of my term of office, to ensure that the School continues to be a reference point for the construction of a more equitable and just society. My hope is to continue on the path of innovation, sustainability, cooperation with local institutions, and strengthening the School's international role.”
“It has been an exciting six years, full of challenges and opportunities. I would like to thank the entire School community for their trust and collaboration, and all the institutional players in the 'Pisa System' who have contributed to and supported the School in achieving important results in the field of research and education,” said outgoing Rector Sabina Nuti.
