The Sant'Anna School of Advanced Studies in Pisa expresses its deepest condolences on the passing of Professor Danilo De Rossi, Professor Emeritus of Bioengineering at the University of Pisa. Born in Genoa in 1949, De Rossi was the founding father of bioengineering in Pisa and a mentor to entire generations of scholars. With his intellectual acumen, his knowledge and his scientific insights, he was able to convey his passion for research and innovation. His vision was also fundamental to the development of bioengineering at the School: it is no coincidence that many of the teachers and researchers currently working at the School were his enthusiastic students.

"The passing of Professor Danilo De Rossi is a profound loss. For me and many others who had the privilege of training under his guidance, we have lost an extraordinary teacher, capable of combining intellectual rigour, scientific vision and a rare humanity. Professor De Rossi did not just teach: he knew how to inspire. Every piece of advice, every insight he offered opened up new horizons, showing how research can be at once curiosity, courage and responsibility towards the future," said Rector Nicola Vitiello.
