A delegation of students from the University of Pisa, Sant'Anna School, Scuola Normale, and the Conservatory of Livorno in Mauthausen for the celebration of the 80th anniversary of Liberation

A delegation of 29 students from the three universities of Pisa and the Conservatory of Livorno will be in Mauthausen on May 11 to celebrate the 80th anniversary of liberation. The ceremony is one of the stops on a pilgrimage to Nazi extermination camps promoted and organized by the National Association of Former Deportees, which this year includes, for the first time, a delegation of students and doctoral candidates from the University of Pisa, Sant'Anna and Normale, and the Mascagni Conservatory in Livorno. The participants will leave on May 8 and return on Monday, May 12, after visiting the camps at Dachau, Ebensee, Gusen, Hartheim Castle, and Mauthausen.

The University of Pisa delegation consists of ten students and doctoral candidates selected in recent months by the Center for Innovation and the Dissemination of Culture (CIDIC) from nearly 500 applications received.

Representing all cultural sectors of the University, the participants are Giulia Badame (Cultural Heritage, RadioEco), Jacopo Benvenuti (Computer Engineering), Daniele Casini (Philosophy), Aurora Lemmetti (Sociology and Social Services Management), Greta Montera (Humanistic Informatics), Andrea Paroli (Computer Science), Diletta Pellegrini (Medicine and Surgery), Caterina Pignata (Biology Applied to Biomedicine), Giacomo Vaiani (PhD student in Computer Science), and Matteo Vecchi (PhD student in Legal Sciences). The delegation will be led by Professors Giuseppe Campanelli, Vice Rector for Legal Affairs, and Saulle Panizza, Director of CIDIC. Other participants from CIDIC include Antonella Ficini (technical and administrative staff – collaborators), Chiara Musicò (scholarship holder) and Alessandro Palla (part-time student collaborator).

Twelve students and postgraduates from the Sant'Anna School of Advanced Studies will also take part in the pilgrimage: Piccarda Baccianti (Medical Sciences), Aurora Barraco (Agricultural Sciences and Biotechnology), Alice Bianco (Economics and Management), Leonardo Boselli (Legal Sciences), Antonio Di Donato (Medical Sciences), Nicolò Ferretti (Political Sciences), Marian Alexandru Isacov (Medical Sciences), Francesco Scarrone (Engineering), Lidia Trombello (Medical Sciences); Muhammad Awais (Biorobotics), Marian Statache (Biorobotics), Daria Riabitch (Translational Medicine). Three students and postgraduates from the Scuola Normale Superiore are also participating: Samuele Biscaro (Mathematics), Alice Pitt (History), and Chiara Pazzaglia (Art History). The delegation is completed by four students from the Mascagni Conservatory in Livorno: Niccolò Chiaramonti, Matteo Dreoni, Michelangelo Salvini, and Benedetta Scalsini.
