Innovative models of industrial symbiosis, to strengthen the competitiveness and sustainability of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) active in the strategic supply chains of the cross-border territory. This is the main objective of the ECCELSI project, co-financed by the Interreg Italy-France Maritime 2021-2027 Program, led by the Foundation for Innovation and Entrepreneurial Development of Pisa. The other partners are the Scuola Superiore Sant'Anna di Pisa, Confindustria Centro Nord Sardegna, Confindustria Genova, Chamber of Commerce of Corsica, Chamber of Commerce Nice and French Riviera, EA Eco-entreprises.

Circular economy and industrial symbiosis processes

The project aims to promote the development of innovative and circular production chains in the cross-border territory, activating industrial symbiosis processes capable of involving the most important sectors of the local economy connected to the Green&Blue Economy. The partners' activities will focus on the construction of a system to facilitate industrial symbiosis to support companies interested in starting or strengthening circular projects, through the development of a computer platform to match the supply and demand of waste and by-products, the organization of training and capacity building activities for companies and stakeholders, and the financing of pilot projects and feasibility studies.

The role of the Sant'Anna School of Advanced Studies

The Sant'Anna School of Advanced Studies is participating in the project as a scientific partner, thanks to the activities of the SuM Lab (Sustainability Management Laboratory) of the Institute of Management. In particular, the research team coordinated by Tiberio Daddi, professor of Business Economics and Management, will support companies in the adoption of industrial symbiosis strategies by verifying their sustainability through environmental impact analysis studies; in addition, the group will assist chambers of commerce and other associations in the creation of a system to facilitate industrial symbiosis.

The launch event is open to the public and will be accessible both in person and via remote connection.
During the meeting, the main activities that will be carried out during the course of the project and the opportunities reserved for local businesses and stakeholders will be presented. Some interesting examples of good industrial symbiosis practices from the Tuscany region will also be presented.
