This is the first master's degree program of its kind in Italy to take a multidisciplinary approach. The first edition of the Master's Degree in Pulmonary Circulation Diseases, promoted by the Scuola Superiore Sant'Anna in Pisa in collaboration with the National Association of Hospital Cardiologists (ANMCO) and Monasterio, is now underway. This is a highly specialized training initiative aimed at resident and specialist physicians in disciplines related to the management of cardiopulmonary diseases, such as cardiology, pulmonology, internal medicine, emergency medicine, radiology, rheumatology, and hematology. The Master's program aims to train professionals in the advanced management of pulmonary circulation diseases, with a particular focus on the early diagnosis and treatment of pulmonary hypertension and pulmonary embolism.

The deadline for applications is October 16, 2025.

"This Master's program was created to fill a training gap in a highly complex clinical field, where timely diagnosis and accurate treatment can radically change the prognosis. We offer a program that combines scientific rigor, clinical experience, and fieldwork with faculty and tutors who are active in centers that today set the standards in the diagnosis and treatment of pulmonary circulation diseases. It is a concrete opportunity to acquire advanced skills that can be immediately applied in clinical practice," explains Alberto Giannoni, professor at the Interdisciplinary Research Center for Health Sciences at the Sant'Anna School, Director of the Master's program, and cardiologist at Monasterio.

The educational objectives

The Master's program was created to respond to the clinical complexity of pulmonary circulation diseases and the need for professionals capable of integrating cardiological, pneumological, radiological, and internal medicine skills in a single training program. Through a theoretical-practical approach, defined in collaboration with ANMCO, the Master's program aims to provide advanced skills in echocardiographic, hemodynamic, radiological, and respiratory function assessment, as well as in the therapeutic management of patients with various forms of pulmonary hypertension and/or pulmonary embolism.

The main skills acquired include: advanced echocardiography, chest imaging (CT and MRI), cardiac catheterization (including stress testing), cardiopulmonary testing, and therapeutic management, both pharmacological and interventional. The Master's program is aligned with the latest international guidelines for the management of pulmonary hypertension and pulmonary embolism.

The Master's program

The program, lasting 18 months, is structured in 7 modules and includes a combination of: face-to-face lectures at the ANMCO national headquarters in Florence and the Sant'Anna School in Pisa; asynchronous training via an online platform; interactive workshops and internships at selected centers of excellence.
