NEW HORIZONS IN ENGINEERING: TOUCH SCREEN MOBILE TEXT INPUT HAS BECOME MORE POPULAR THAN EVER. GOOGLE SCIENTIST GIVES A SEMINAR AT SANT’ANNA SCHOOL TeCIP INSTITUTE ON JUNE 14

Shumin Zhai, a Principal Scientist at Google, who leads and directs research, design, and development of input methods and haptics systems, will give a seminar on “The Human and Technology Factors in Smartphone Text Input” at the TeCIP Institute on June 14, 2018.

Zhai has contributed to theoretical models and understandings of human-computer interaction as well as practical user interface designs. Interaction has played a central role in the design of touchscreen devices that have become the essential interfaces in smartphones. The seminar will focus on novel Android touchscreen user interface for text entry and efficient input methods.

Texting has never been easier to manage. Billions of users communicate and search on their smartphones everyday through a modern software interface - the touchscreen keyboard. Over the past 15 years, human-computer interaction and information technology research has evolved at a rapid pace. According to surveys, consumers spend an average of five hours a day on their smartphones. In analysing the combination of machine intelligence and human factors, Dr. Zhai will discuss concerns and unanswered questions regarding the implications of massive adoption of artificial intelligence and digital transformation.
