Nicola Vitiello, full professor of Bioengineering, is the new rector of the Scuola Superiore Sant'Anna in Pisa for the 2025-2031 term. 

At the public assembly held in the Aula Magna of the Scuola, the president of the polling station, Marc Sorel, announced the results of the first ballot, held on Tuesday 28 and Wednesday 29 January. The quorum required for the ballot to be considered valid was exceeded: out of 1470 eligible voters, 1056 voted, i.e. 71.84%. 

The candidates received the following weighted votes:

  • Arianna Menciassi, Full Professor of Bioengineering: 367.09 weighted votes
  • Nicola Vitiello, Full Professor of Bioengineering: 563.42 weighted votes
  • Blank ballots: 125.48 weighted votes

Vitiello exceeded the eligibility threshold of 528.00 weighted votes.

Vitiello takes office on 8 May 2025, when Sabina Nuti's term of office expires.
