The Sant'Anna School at Lucca Comics and Games with the talk “Superheroes, What Right Do You Have?” featuring Jeph Loeb, Giuseppe Martinico, and Jessica Tseang.
On November 1, 2024, Giuseppe Martinico, Full Professor of Comparative Law at the Dirpolis Institute, will speak at the talk “Superheroes, What Right Do You Have?” alongside some of the most influential figures in the field.
This event is an important opportunity to delve into the role of law within superhero stories and graphic novels—fields that, while rooted in popular culture, serve as surprising tools for critical analysis and representation of social dynamics.
Through superheroes, there emerges a reflection on ideals of justice and the conflicts between personal morality and obligations toward society, themes fully expressed in Law in Graphic Narrative, a book co-authored by Martinico and Gianpaolo Maria Ruotolo.
Joining Professor Martinico on stage will be notable guests: Jeph Loeb, an international screenwriter and prominent figure in American comics, known for iconic storylines in both the Marvel and DC Comics universes; and Jessica Tseang, journalist and pop culture critic.
The talk will be moderated by Marta Perego, journalist and television author, who will guide the discussion among the speakers with questions aimed at exploring the complex relationship between justice, legality, and storytelling.
This talk will be an opportunity to reflect on how superhero stories can influence the collective perception of law and justice, fostering a discussion that invites experts to share new perspectives on how popular storytelling can translate legal principles into engaging, accessible scenarios for all.
