An innovative way to teach and disseminate scientific research, through a portal that puts in direct contact professors and researchers from around the world. ShanghAI Lectures is a project with the aim to:

  • building a sustainable community of students and researchers in the area of Embodied Intelligence;
  • making education and knowledge on cutting-edge scientific topics accessible to everyone;
  • exploring novel methods of knowledge transfer;
  • overcoming the complexity of a multi-cultural and interdisciplinary learning context;
  • bringing global teaching to a new level.

ShanghAI Lectures takes advantage of the web's multimedia. Students can participate by videoconference thanks to streaming and social networks and can interact in a virtual space in second life. A form of “horizontal communication”, which provides maximum exchange between professor and students.

Professors and Assistant Professors of the Biorobotics Institute who participated in the project are: Fabio Bonsignorio, Cecilia Laschi, Arianna Menciassi and Nicola Vitiello.

A feature of the project are “Koan”, working groups formed by students. The aim of Koan is to develop a specific research topic.

The Koan number 5 is formed by PhD students of Biorobotics Institute: Annagiulia Morachioli, Giulia Acerbi, Ilaria Strazzulla and Donato Romano. On 9th Febraury the group presented the work entitled “A Soft Touch”, based on the development of soft finger stalls in silicone.
