Although he is young, Sant’Anna School student Giulio Deangeli, has very clear ideas about his career. “Science has enriched my life” said Deangeli as one of the 35 undergraduate students selected to participate in the Harvard Stem Cell Institute (HSCI) Internship program which provides with a challenging research experience in a cutting-edge stem cell science laboratory.

Giulio Deangeli will have the opportunity to work with Professor Paola Arlotta, at the Harvard Department of Stem Cell and Regenerative Biology. Deangeli’s research focuses on cultures of 3D cerebral organoids.

“This program represents a great opportunity for me to gain practical experience in stem cell research while working with leading scientists of Harvard University, ranked first in the world for four subjects including medicine, biology, neuroscience and psychology. Sant’Anna School prepared me to continue my scientific education in research laboratory under the supervision of highly qualified researchers. The Harvard Stem Cell Institute and Harvard Department of Stem Cell and Regenerative Biology are regarded as leading research institutions to advance the understanding of human development and disease, support the discovery of stem cell-based therapies and cures.

Giulio Deangeli, a medical student in his fourth year, has received many awards and international recognition for his accomplishments. In 2013, he ranked second in the Neuroscience competition (a Brain Bee initiative),in 2016 he participated in the Amgen Scholars program at Cambridge University.

“My dream is to become a scientist – said Deangeli. I love researching. I think research work makes life meaningful and creativity is the key to explore the world and improve quality of life. Scientists are motivated by contributing to the common good. Research brings great opportunities of expanding knowledge on a daily basis”.
