Expertise in Artificial Intelligence can help patients in physical rehabilitation and recovery monitoring their post-stroke activities at home.

The ARC-Intellicare platform enabling home-based motor rehabilitation will be unveiled at the Internet Festival hosted in Pisa. The system is designed to be used at home to allow patients to improve their physical rehabilitation and speed of recovery within the first six months of suffering a stroke. It offers both patient and therapist the ability to accurately monitor exercise and activity and permits the therapist to customize the rehabilitation to individual patient circumstances.

The ARC-Intellicare platform is part of the EU project "Mobile Assistance for Groups Individuals within the Community (MAGIC)" to develop innovative, technology-based solutions that improve physical rehabilitation. Sant’Anna School Spin off companies BioCare Provider and Henesis - that have merged into the CAMLIN group - have designed this new platform.

In November 2018, 300 patients in Italy and Northern Ireland will assess the home-based ARC-Intellicare system. The system utilizes several accelerometer sensors (worn on the limbs), a tablet and a SW platform, with a simple and straightforward UI to capture and monitor exercises performed by the patient in their daily activity. It can be used without WiFi or 3G/4G coverage and sensors have wireless recharge on the base station to support the continuum of care after discharge. The ARC-Intellicare AI engine will model data, learn from users and provide qualitative and quantitative feedback to the therapist on patient progress. The system represents a step forward to clinical trials.

CAMLIN was founded in 2008. It is the only technology company from Northern Ireland to feature in the Sunday Times Hiscox Tech Track 100 league table 2014 (it placed 54th). With the fastest-growing sales over three years, the CAMLIN operation spans over 20 countries across the globe developing. Over the past years, CAMLIN has made significant investments in hi-tech equipment both at the headquarters in Northern Ireland and satellite facilities for Brain Computer Interfaces, Precision Rehabilitation, Augmented Reality and Natural Language Processing, in Bologna and Parma. The ARC-Intellicare platform is manufactured in Parma.
