Underground alliances: arbuscular mycorrhizas from the origin of land plants to the future of agriculture
Relator: Andrea Genre (Dipartimento di Scienze della Vita e Biologia dei Sistemi, Università degli Studi di Torino).
"The symbiosis with arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi (Glomeromycotina) is considered to have supported the conquest of dry lands by plants, over 400 milion years ago. By presenting some of our most recent results, I will discuss how the same symbiosis could now support humankind in solving one of our most urgent problems: feeding a growing population while reducing the environmental impact of agriculture".
