Master’s Degree in Embedded Computing Systems Call

The Sant’Anna School of Advanced Studies and the University of Pisa have jointly activated the Master’s Degree in Embedded Computing Systems.

The Master’s degree is a joint initiative between:

  • The Information Engineering Department of the University of Pisa
  • The  Communication, Information and Perception Technologies Institute (TeCIP) of the Scuola Superiore Sant’Anna

The degree is jointly awarded by the University of Pisa and the Sant’Anna School of Advanced Studies.

An embedded system is a computerised system inserted into a bigger system in order to manage its resources and control its functions using dedicated hardware devices. Typical examples of embedded systems are the ABS breaking system, the car control unit, the autopilot of a plane, the control system of a nuclear reactor, the computer inside a mobile phone and a pacemaker. In the last 10 years, embedded systems have seen an exponential growth in various application fields, from transports to medicine, from automotive to aviation systems, including consumption electronics, multimedial devices, domotics, construction industry, energy, entertainment, agriculture and environment control. According to a European study, today 98% of current computerised systems are embedded and this number is likely to grow.

The aim of the Master’s Degree Course in Embedded Computing Systems, exclusively taught in English, is to train an emerging professional profile, able to design, analyse and implement Embedded Systems, developing a specific experience in the design of highly-complex hardware and software devices, in the time trends analysis and algorithms for an efficient management of computational and memory resources, energy and communication band.

Both promoting institutions collaborate with the main businesses of the Embedded System field, such as Ericsson, Philips, Airbus, Bosch, Magneti Marelli and Telecom, as well as various local small- and medium-sized businesses.
