Governance mechanisms for healthcare systems
The MeS Laboratory closely collaborates with healthcare authorities and institutions at regional and national level. The MeS Laboratory team has developed the Performance Evaluation System, patented and adopted by the Tuscany Region and the Network of Regions, involving the majority of the Italian Regions.
The assessment of regional systems and health authorities performance covers their ability to: promote the health of the population; translate strategies into results; guarantee the quality of care; improve the patient experience; build a suitable organizational environment; promote health safety; achieve all the above-mentioned goals by a correct use of resources. Thanks to the representation of the so-called “Target” ("Bersaglio") with five evaluation bands (from poor performance to optimal performance), the performance evaluation system summarizes the performance of over 200 indicators at regional and authority level.
In 2017 the team added the “Pentagram” ("Pentagramma") , which shows the performance of care pathways. The performance evaluation system was used to identify priorities and set challenging goals.
