June 10, 2022, the Sant'Anna School celebrates 20 years of the Master in Human Rights and Conflict Management. The programme, inaugurated in 2002, has trained hundreds of professionals working in the field all over the world, at the most prestigious international organisations and NGOs. Every year, Italian and foreign students from different countries and with different cultural and academic backgrounds participate in the Master's programme. The didactic programme, which takes place in Pisa during the first seven months of the Master's course, offers theoretical and practical courses to build an in-depth, up-to-date and field-oriented knowledge of international law and conflict management theories and techniques and to develop the skills necessary to work in this field.

The day will open at 9.30 a.m. in the Aula Magna of the Scuola Sant'Anna with the institutional greetings opened by an introduction by Emanuele Sommario, Director of the Master's degree course, and with a short speech by the two Directors who have contributed to founding and growing the Master's degree course in its first sixteen years, Barbara Henry and Andrea de Guttry. It will also be possible to listen to the testimonies of some alumni who will briefly recount what their work experience has been like since graduating from the Master's course.

At 12 noon in the cloister of the Sant'Anna School, the photographic exhibition Lashkars will be inaugurated, in the presence of the author, photojournalist Massimo Berruti, who collaborates with several newspapers (including Time, The New Yorker, L'Espresso) and has won several international prizes and awards for his projects. The exhibition depicts the life of a combatant militia that opposed the Taliban regime and will be hosted at the School premises. The exhibition will be open until 30/06.

The 20th anniversary celebration will be an opportunity to take stock of professional training in the field of human rights and conflict resolution. The international round table, which will take place starting at 2.30 p.m. in the Aula Magna of the Sant'Anna School and will be coordinated by Emanuele Sommario, Director of the Master, and by William O'Neill, Human Rights Monitoring Expert, will be attended by Emanuela Del Re, EU Special Representative for the Sahel, Michael O'Flaherty, Director of the European Agency for Fundamental Rights, Major Michela Desantis, who acted as Gender Advisor for the peacekeeping missions in Lebanon and Afghanistan, and Kostantinos Moschochoritis, Director General of Intersos Italy.
