Santa Croce in Fossabanda

chiostro dall'alto

The historic complex of the former Santa Croce in Fossabanda convent, located in the eastern area of Pisa, is one of the city’s oldest and most significant sites. The first documentary evidence dates back to 1238, when historical sources record the presence of a community of Dominican nuns at this location. Over the centuries, the building has undergone transformations, expansions, and changes of use, while maintaining a strong connection to its religious origins and to Pisa’s historical and architectural heritage.

The entire complex underwent a major restoration and repurposing project, completed in October 2024, which restored its historical value while adapting it to the residential and educational needs of the student community. The project preserved the central cloister, characterized by a large green area, around which the college spaces are arranged.

Today, the facility offers 35 beds, distributed across 35 single rooms, designed to ensure privacy, comfort, and optimal study conditions. The common areas have been designed to promote collegiate life and include a breakfast room, a laundry, multiple study rooms, a gym, recreational areas, and classrooms for educational and seminar activities.

Santa Croce in Fossabanda College thus represents a meeting point between history and modernity, offering students a unique environment in which to live, study, and grow.
