Available positions

No. 6 positions with scholarship funded as follows:

  • No. 5 positions funded by Scuola Superiore Sant’Anna;
  • No. 1 position funded by the Fondazione Pisana per la Scienza ONLUS, reserved for candidates submitting a research project on the topic "Detection and characterization of biomarkers associated with oncological or cardiovascular diseases."

Further positions may be offered before the start of the programme, depending on additional funding.

In addition to the standard curriculum of the program, the Gabriele Monasterio Toscana Foundation (FTGM), in collaboration with the Sant'Anna School of Advanced Studies, offers a supplementary scientific-clinical training program as part of the Ph.D. in Translational Medicine.

Students may enroll in the training program starting in their first year, provided they have obtained, in addition to a degree in Medicine and Surgery, a license to practice medicine and a specialization in one of the FTGM’s areas of interest.

Research projects, evaluated during the admission process, must be compatible with the FTGM’s fields of interest.

Admission of students to this joint training program is handled by a committee of experts appointed by the FTGM. For activities carried out during the scientific-clinical track, students admitted to the joint program will be awarded a supplementary scholarship funded by the FTGM.


What does the PhD in Translational Medicine offer?

  • An interdisciplinary and international research environment
  • Three-year doctoral scholarship of € 19.740 gross per year + a housing allowance of € 2.200 gross per year. The total amount corresponds to approximately € 1.600 net/month.
  • 26 free meals per month at the School’s canteen
  • 50% scholarship increase for research periods abroad
  • Personal budget for research-related expenses (10% of the scholarship)

What documents do you need to participate?

MANDATORY
  • Valid identity document
  • Self-certification of the qualification obtained or to be obtained in Italy, including the list of examinations taken
  • Certificate issued by the institution awarding the qualification obtained or to be obtained abroad, including the list of examinations taken
  • Curriculum Vitae et Studiorum
  • Motivation letter
  • Research project (minimum 3.000 words and maximum 5.000 words)
  • Self-certification of the academic qualification qualifying for admission indicating the arithmetic means of the marks obtained in the individual exams during the Master's/Specialist degree course and the number of honors. (if the degree was awarded or is to be awarded in Italy)
  • Document attesting to the minimum and maximum grades required to pass each examination, the conversion of each foreign grade into the corresponding Italian grade, and the calculation of the resulting arithmetic mean of the grades obtained

Please note: All mandatory documents must be submitted; failure to comply will result in exclusion from the call.
