BIOMEDICAL RESEARCH AND INNOVATION: THE “FONDAZIONE VOLTERRA RICERCHE ONLUS” INTRODUCES ITSELF ON FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 18th. SANT’ANNA SCHOOL BIOROBOTICS RESEARCH INSTITUTE PLAYS A KEY ROLE IN NEUROLOGICAL AND CARDIAC PULMONARY REHABILITATION

Biomedical research and innovation in Tuscany: on Friday, 18 November 2016, 9.30 a.m., at Centro studi Santa Maria Maddalena - Volterra (Pisa), the research foundation “Fondazione Volterra Ricerche onlus” will be officially established. The Sant’Anna School of Advanced Studies Biorobotics Institute and Rehabilitation BioEngineering Laboratory play a key role in future joint research activity.

The new Volterra Research Foundation partners with: Auxilium Vitae  (Tuscany Region Health Service) and Volterra bank foundation - Fondazione Cassa di Risparmio di Volterra. The Sant’Anna School Rehabilitation BioEngineering Laboratory, established in 2011, and Professor Paolo Dario, director of the Sant’Anna Biorobotics Institute, appointed as a member of Volterra Foundation Board of Directors, will collaborate in the scientific activities focusing on rehabilitation research. Studies on the effects of robotic therapy in neurological rehabilitation (especially post-stroke) and the use of technologies for the cardio-respiratory rehabilitation have been conducted in Volterra. Pilot projects were carried out for applications of tele-monitoring and tele-rehabilitation in patient’s home care. Stefano Mazzoleni, researcher at Sant’Anna Biorobotics Institute, will join the Foundation Scientific Committee.

Key note speakers at November 18th inaugural meeting include: Nicolino Ambrosino, Auxilium Vitae, Fondazione Volterra Ricerche; Giorgio Galanti, University of Firenze, focusing on sports medicine and rehabilitation; Alessandro Rossi, Francesco Tomaiuolo and Emanuele Montomoli,  University of Siena, discussing advances in neuroscience and experimental studies for the diagnosis of patients with disorders of consciousness; Guido Vagheggini, Auxilium Vitae Volterra, presenting recent research on pulmonary rehabilitation and Stefano Mazzoleni’s speech on “BioRobotics and Rehabilitation Techniques: research work carried out by the Rehabilitation BioEngineering Laboratory ".

Paolo Dario, gives his speech on "The 'New Deal 2.0', plan for the development of Tuscany Region healthcare system based on innovation, digital economy and the possible role of Volterra Research Foundation ". Closing speech will be given by Antonio Mazzeo, regional councillor in Tuscany, titled "The Volterra Research Foundation in the framework of regional network of industry and research".
