Research lights up Tuscany: BRIGHT-NIGHT, the European Researchers' Night, returns on September 26. The program of initiatives organized by the Sant'Anna School

Friday, September 26 marks the return of the “European Researchers' Night,” an event that allows participants to immerse themselves in the world of science and research and discover the work of those who are committed every day to finding solutions to the challenges of today and tomorrow. Promoted annually by the European Commission to spread scientific culture, the initiative takes place simultaneously throughout Europe. In Tuscany, the event is called BRIGHT-NIGHT, a title that perfectly reflects its mission: to light up the night with the talent of researchers. BRIGHT is an acronym for “Brilliant Researchers Impact on Growth Health and Trust in Research” and includes a rich program of initiatives presented on Friday, September 12, at a press conference. BRIGHT-NIGHT involves the entire world of research in Tuscany: it is promoted by the universities (University of Florence, Pisa, Siena, Siena Stranieri, Scuola Superiore Sant'Anna di Pisa, Scuola Normale Superiore, and Scuola IMT Alti Studi Lucca) and by a wide network of research institutions - the National Research Council (CNR), the National Institute of Nuclear Physics (INFN), the National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology (INGV), the European Gravitational Observatory (EGO), the National Institute of Astrophysics - Arcetri Astrophysical Observatory (INAF-OAA) - with the support of the Tuscany Region, as part of Giovanisì, the regional project for the autonomy of young people. Once again, around 1,000 researchers will be involved in the event, present in the squares of many cities in the region (Arezzo, Florence, Grosseto, Lucca, Pisa, Prato, San Giovanni Valdarno, Siena, and San Casciano dei Bagni) will be involved in this edition of the event, animating hundreds of initiatives: workshops, demonstrations, experiments, exhibitions, guided tours, and scientific walks will engage citizens in a fascinating journey through a wide range of research-related topics. New to this edition is the theme “BRIGHT Ones,” a special focus on inclusion as a fundamental value of science that cares for people, relationships, territories, and the environment.
This theme will be discussed at the event scheduled in Florence on September 22, which precedes the events on the 26th. The initiative, entitled “Bright Ones: perspectives on inclusiveness from research”, scheduled for 10 a.m. at Palazzo Strozzi Sacrati, in Piazza Duomo, will feature contributions from all the partner institutions and a number of organizations active in the sector, which have come together to propose a joint event that will then be replicated in all the cities. It will be an opportunity for discussion and encounter between the world of research and organizations active in the territory. The event will be moderated by journalist Chiara Brilli, editorial director of Controradio. The detailed program is available at www.bright-night.it.
Initiatives by the Sant'Anna School of Advanced Studies
Workshops, interactive stands, lessons, and educational games for children, conferences to learn about the most important scientific developments. The Sant'Anna School of Advanced Studies in Pisa is participating in the 2025 edition of Bright-Night with a series of initiatives involving numerous research groups.
The heart of the exhibition will be at the Central Headquarters and in the new Library, recently renovated and at the center of a rich program of events.
Another new feature is the return of the Talks, short informative lectures by researchers on topics of general interest such as health, artificial intelligence, feminist theories, and sustainability.
