Lorenzo De Marinis, research fellow at the TeCIP Institute of the Sant'Anna School, was awarded the best student paper award at the international conference ACP 2022. The conference, organized with an annual basis since 2001, involves each year hundreds of experts from around the world in the fields of photonics, optical communications and novel technologies. The event is supported by the major scientific organizations worldwide, including OPTICA, the IEEE Photonics Society, SPIE, the Chinese Optical Society e the Chinese Institute of Communications.

This edition held in Shenzhen (China) in hybrid mode. De Marinis presented an oral contribution entitled: "Improving Noise Resilience in End-To-End Deep Learning Optical Fiber Transmission", within the session Microwave Photonics and Optical Signal Processing. The research presents a practical solution to exploit artificial intelligence systems to improve the quality of optical trasmissions, allowing in the meantime to exploit transmission devices that are both more compact, energy efficient and less costly.

This work has been developed in a collaboration with the research group on wireless and photonic systems and networks (WinPhos) of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (Greece), coordinated by Professor Nikos Pleros and supervised by Giampiero Contestabile, professor of Telecommunications at the TeCIP Institute of the Sant'Anna School.
