In recent years, the Waseda University and Sant’Anna School synergy initiatives have been progressing and have created new opportunities in research joint activities and in the area of human resource development by providing graduate training programs for their students. The cooperation is renewed every ten years: Paolo Dario and Atsuo Takanishi renewed their commitment to further strengthen bilateral cooperation.

The agreement, signed in Tokyo in the presence of Domenico Giorgi, Italian Ambassador to Japan, aims above all to strengthen the links between students, faculty and researchers of both institutions. Cecilia Laschi who is considered one of Italy’s leading scientists in “soft” robotics, is now in Tokyo as part of the Italian delegation, to give seminars and lectures. Waseda University and Sant’Anna School partnership enables Sant’Anna doctoral students to complete their high-quality preparation and training at Waseda University, one of the most prestigious universities in Japan for the quality of research. The partnership will identify potential areas of improvement in robotics research and humanoid robots design.

"The collaboration with the Waseda University, specifically with 'The Humanoid Robotics Institute and the Comprehensive Research' - noted Paolo Dario - represents a distinct possibility for Sant'Anna School and for our PhD students for improving knowledge transfer between research institutions. In recent years, a large number of graduate students and researchers from Waseda University worked in our Institute: now we would like to increase exchange opportunities for student mobility. Faculty members of Waseda University are anxious to further consolidate the fruitful exchange. Considering the excellent research work performed at Waseda University, as well as their kind hospitality, I wish to see a bigger and stronger Italian student’s presence at Waseda".
